Greece Considers Reducing Business Energy Costs Without EU Approval
Yesterday, Development Minister Nikos Dendias stated that Greece is considering decreasing business energy prices, even without the European Union's consent.
The Development Minister stated after a cross-ministerial industrial policy discussion, "We are pursuing an honest dialogue regarding the reduction of energy costs but if we disagree with our partners about the measures, we can - as a sovereign country – legislate... Anyone who wants to can then haul us before EU bodies", according to Kathimerini.
Dendias confirmed that lower energy prices will be discussed with European Commission President-elect Jean Claude Juncker, during his trip to Athens next week by Greek governmental leaders.
The Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and the cabinet held a meeting this week, where industrialists voiced their request to decrease energy costs. SEV claimed that Hellenic agencies pay 30% more in natural gas prices than competitors in other EU nations.
