Tsipras Worried About Universities

SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras expressed concern over the situation at universities after meeting with representatives of university administrative employee unions, on Monday .
Mr. Tsipras noted his particular concern over the fact that services such as student care, security, libraries and network centres were collapsing, with unforeseen consequences for students, teachers and society.
The leader of SYRIZA stated that the government was dealing a heavy blow to eight universities, among them the country's leading institutions, by depriving them of support and administrative staff, essential for their operation.
Mr Tsipras noted that this would mean ceding vital activities to the private sector and ultimately the imposition of tuition.
The leader of SYRIZA said that the unjustified, illegal, and unconstitutional layoffs were depriving the new generation of reliable and high-level studies and the country of necessary research for its reconstruction and growth.
Mr. Tsipras also accused the government of having replaced dialogue with universities with a string of judicial interventions, abolishing university self-administration.
