First Greek Underwater Parks

The first underwater parks are expected to begin operating in Greece by the summer of 2014, through the common decision of the ministers of culture and merchant marine affairs.
The first two underwater parks will be established in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Pylos – Nestor and will be the first underwater archaeological sites open to diver visitors.
Prime minister Antonis Samaras had announced his intention to establish the underwater parks in August 2012.
One of the sites lies in the premier's home region, near the island of Sapienza, where there are registered ancient shipwrecks with the columns from the temple of Herod and sculpted sarcophagi from Troy. The other is in the Gulf of Navarino, and sports the 1978 wreck of tanker "Irene Serenade," one of the largest visitable shipwrecks, globally.
