Greece's First Domestically Crafted Submarine Prepares Launch
Greece has constructed its first domestically crafted submarine coined Pipinos.
Pipinos is a Type 214 diesel-electric vessel and will be ready for use on October 6th, as announced by the Hellenic Navy. The submarine is the first of three mechanisms to be crafted by Hellenic Shipyards for the Navy. Pipinos is expected to be part of the Navy fleet within the initial six months of 2015.
Hellenic Shipyards is predicted to finalize improvements on the Type 209 Okeanos by next month's end, while Type 214 Matrozos is set to launch by the end of 2014. Its initial submarine Papanikolis, was received in 2010 and created by Germany's Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW). The price of creating and upgrading the submarines is held at 75 million euros, according to Kathimerini.
