Greece fined for illegal dumps
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
On 2 December, the European Court will announce the imposition of penalty on Greece for the operation of dozens of illegal landfills, which the Ministry of Environment estimates at 49.
According to the proposal from the prosecution, which is publishedin "Kathimerini"newspaper , the country will have to directly pay 22 million euros and an additional 54,450 euros for each day until the closure and rehabilitation of even the last dump.
Having no other choice, the environment ministry has focused in recent months to minimize potential adverse effects, requiring the transfer of garbage in any area with even a modicum of waste management conditions.
