Popular singer Giorgos Mazonakis' sudden death causes grief and raises questions

The popular singer suffered a cardiac arrest while in a private clinic in Kolonaki and, despite the immediate mobilization of the EKAB, his transfer to the "Elpis" hospital and the persistent efforts of the doctors for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, it was not possible to revive him.

At the same time, his death is no longer treated only as a tragic and sudden incident. The circumstances under which it occurred have been put under the microscope of the medical services and police authorities, as questions have arisen regarding the clinic where the singer was, the procedure for which he allegedly went there and whether the specific place had the required license for such medical procedures.

The aim of the police investigation is to establish whether criminal acts have been committed and to clarify the exact circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred. It is worth noting that, according to information, the treatments advertised by the specific clinic allegedly did not have an indication from a regulatory body, but this remains to be officially answered.

Yesterday, the doctor of the clinic was brought in along with his wife, also a doctor, and they testified at the Athens Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Sub-Directorate. After their testimony, they were released while the investigation continues.

The placement of the “butterfly” on Mazonakis’ hand before the procedure has also come under the microscope, as the authorities want to establish when it was used and for what reason.

The doctor who appears as the owner of the clinic allegedly claims that his wife - a gynecologist - was the one who dealt with the treatments and monitoring of Giorgos Mazonakis, as he himself was not particularly involved in the specific procedures.

It should be noted that according to the medical association, his wife does not appear to have a specialty.

Those involved, however, according to the same information, allegedly claim that no illegal action has been taken and that everything was carried out in accordance with the prescribed rules and medical procedures.

According to information from iefimerida, the doctor for the clinic had a specialist pathologist's license, co-located with a doctor - his wife - without a specialty.

There was no sign outside the clinic and from the first moment it came under the microscope of the authorities for the treatments it advertised on its website that it provided.

Specifically, he advertised that he performs holistic treatments with CD 34 plus stem cells for diseases ranging from orthopedic diseases to coronary heart disease, to immunosuppression.

A leading hematologist who asked iefimerida stated that “these stem cells are the ones used exclusively in bone marrow transplants. Everything else that the clinic advertises as adding is not licensed and is considered to be beyond medicine.”

All of this will be investigated by the Greek Police, as will the singer’s movements before he went to the clinic, which is why his home has been sealed and will also be searched.

The police are investigating where the singer was before arriving at the clinic and what exactly the sequence of events was.

At present, there is no connection between the death and the treatment for which he had gone to the Kolonaki clinic, nor is it known whether the treatment had begun and he was simply in preparation when the singer felt chest pain and collapsed.

Answers about what caused the death of Giorgos Mazonakis will be provided by the forensic examination, as well as the comprehensive and complex investigation by the authorities.
