Three Sentenced for Stealing A Million Liters of Oil from University

Sentences of up to nine years in prison was the penalty adjudicated Thessaloniki criminal tribunal to three persons charged with stealing one million liters of heating oil from the university of Thessaloniki.
The court recognized mitigating circumstances and set them free on bail, until their trial at the second degree. Two of the three received seven years sentences and one nine years.
The theft took place during the first four months of 2004, causing a lost to the university worth 500,000 euros at that time.
The crime was discovered when the boiler had to be replaced and the tanks were found to be totally dry, despite manifests showing they had been filled to the top. The courts found 15 other persons, not guilty of the charges.
