Konstantopoulou announces candidacy with Popular Unity
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Zoe Konstantopoulou, the Speaker in the outgoing Parliament, announced Monday she will take part in the September 20 election with Popular Unity, the Syriza splinter party headed by Panagiotis Lafazanis.
The party was formed by lawmakers opposed to the third bailout agreed by the Syriza-led government and Greece’s creditors.
Konstantopoulou’s marathon press conference announcing her decision took an unexpected turn when several contract employees of the Parliament protested at their treatment, claiming they had not been paid in months. Konstantopoulou called their protest a “provocation.”
