Feta Name Protected from Canadian Producers?
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Alternate development minister Notis Mitarakis briefed the standing parliamentary committee on commerce about the official protection of Greek feta cheese in Canada.
As the minister noted, no Canadian producer will be able to sell cheese in the EU labeled as feta, and all symbols referring to a Greek product will be removed, and the reference that it is a Canadian product will be obviously visible.
Opposition deputies expressed reservations as to securing the name and called on the state to be vigilant.
Mr. Mitarakis left insinuations against the agriculture ministry in reference to the International Organization for Commerce summit in Indonesia, for which he said he refused to send representatives because of pressing work loads.
