Gold medalist Katerina Stefanidi was given a raucous welcome by family friends and fans as she arrived at Athens’ International Airport on Thursday, after the end of the Olympics in Rio.
The 26-year-old pole vault athlete told journalists she was “very happy and pleased” with what she achieved in Rio and thanked her husband Mitchell Krier. “We still have some competitions but we are really looking forward to our holidays,” she said adding that she did her best and hoped for a medal.
“We wanted to come to Greece to see the people, see my family and my friends and then we have the next athletic competition in Zurich,” she said.
