Manufacturing sectors show new jobs
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Despite the loss of 206,500 jobs in manufacturing since 2008, 9 important sectors show an increase of jobs, especially through part time, or rotational positions.
The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), more specifically has identified that employees increased in the following sectors:
-
The food sector by about 12,000 positions, which is a 12.6% increase.
-
The drinks and beverage sector by 261 positions, up by 2.9%.
-
The miscellaneous industrial category by 1,809 positions, up by 29.9%
-
The weaving industry supply sector by 1,805 positions, up by 29.9%
-
The machine repair and placement sector by 1,040 positions, up by 12.6%.
-
The plastics sector by 2,285 positions up by 21.5%
-
The leather and footwear sector by 1,214 positions
-
The print and media reproduction sector by 881 positions, up by 5.6%
-
The basic metals sector by 1,117 persons, up by 5.6%.
It must be noted that in all of these sectors employment remains much lower than what it was relative to 2008, despite the recent relative upsurge.
However, it is the first time since 2008 that these sectors have shown an increase in job positions, and they account for over half the positions in the manufacturing sector.
