Tourist arrivals are expected to exceed 26 million this year from 24.8 million in 2016, while including sea cruise arrivals could surpass 28.5 million despite a 20 pct decline in sea cruise traffic because of geopolitical developments in the wider Southeastern Mediterranean, the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) said in a report on Greek tourism.
The report stressed that total tourism revenues could reach 14.2-14.5 billion euros this year if average tourism spending recovered to 2015 levels, with the tourism industry contributing one more point to the country's Gross Domestic Product.
The report said Greek tourism industry needed a new special land framework to meeting specific challenges, setting new strategies and terms, connecting targets with development and available funding tools, promoting a competitive and sustainable tourism product and exploiting innovation.
