Where's the flag? Imia revisited?

The rocky island of Mikros Anthropofas in the island complex of Fourni has come in the last few days in the front line of current affairs and at the heart of Turkish provocations.

A few days ago, a three young men from neighboring Fournoi reached five distant points with a small high speed craft, placing Greek flags. A few days later, Ankara reported that its forces had lowered the Greek flag from the rocky island of Mikros Anthropofas.

On Tuesday, however, Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannis Amanatidis insisted that the flag remains on the spot. Speaking to SKAI television, he said that "there is no confirmation of the lowering of the Greek flag fromo the Anthropofa (a.k.a. anthropofagos/oi), there is no such activity", disputing Ankara's allegations.

"There is an investigation into the incident. We are witnessing daily air and maritime violations. The strategy of tension does not benefit Turkey or Greece, the Turks need to be much more careful. There are no "gray zones" in the Aegean, there is international law that defines what is defined in the Aegean, "the Deputy Foreign Minister explained. "Stability in the wider region is in the interest of our country," he added.

The assessment of the fact that the Turks built the "news" about the lowering of the Greek flag, as a distraction to the incident in the Russian Federation, was expressed by the Deputy Minister of National Defense, Fotis Kouvelis. He warned that an interception episode could easily turn into a warm one.
