Egypt’s foreign ministry lashes out at Turkey
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
In a very harsh tone, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued late Saturday night a statement expressing its unequivocal opposition to any unilateral actions threatening Cyprus' sovereign rights.
The spokesperson of the ministry of foreign affairs, on Saturday 5 October, expressed Egypt's emphasis on the rights and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over its resources in the Eastern Mediterranean region as part of international law, including the areas where Cyprus has been granted a permit Marine exploration for oil and gas.
The statement warned against continuing any single actions that violated Cyprus rights and threaten the security and stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region, underlining the need to commit to respect and implement the rules and provisions of international law.
The 7th Tripartite Summit of the Heads of State of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece is being held in Cairo on Tuesday morning, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, President Nikos Anastasiadis and Prime Minister Misi in attendance.
