Mayors on Crete agree to host 400 unaccompanied refugee children
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The mayors of Crete have said 'yes' to the hosting of unaccompanied refugee children on the island in response to a call made by Deputy Labour Minister Domna Michailidou, during a meeting of the region's union of municipalities.
The municipalities' union agreed to host the unaccompanied youngsters in response to a request that Crete assume its share of the burden of hosting unaccompanied minors.
Based on what was discussed at the mayors' meeting with Michailidou, 400 children will be sent to the island, 100 to each region, and will be hosted in small facilities of up to 30 children each.
