Relocation of 668 vulnerable asylum seekers from Lesvos to Attica

The mass removal of 668 vulnerable asylum seekers has taken place in recent days from the Moria Reception and Identification Center. Specifically, 456 people left Mytilene for Piraeus last Friday night, and 212 on Saturday. They were transferred to a camp in Ritsona, Attica.
The displacement of the above large number of asylum seekers has put the population of the Moria camp below 19,000. Specifically, according to the Center administration in Moria, there are 18,640 asylum seekers in total. Of these, 11,200 live in the countryside around the facilities. A total of 20,707 people reside in the structures of the Mytilene Municipal Unit (including the camp in Moria). The local population of the same area according to the 2011 census is 37,000 people.
