Opinion poll: ND leads by 17 points
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The refugee issue remains a thorn in the government side, according to a new Opinion Poll poll, which confirms ND's lead over SYRIZA by 17 points.
It should be noted, however, that public opinion is negative about the possibility of early elections. According to the poll, the cabinet takes credit for foreign policy issues and for its handling of Greek-Turkish relations. At the same time, economic policy and the handling of squatters with their evacuations by police authorities are positively assessed.
As for the new President of the Republic, Catherine Sakellaropoulou, 61.3% of the public welcomes the selection of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Refugee-migratory 'headache'
More specifically, migrant-refugee is perceived as the main problem of public opinion, with 61.9%, as local communities are seething and seeking solutions.
Only 18.2% (up from 27.4% in November) are satisfied with government policy on this issue, while 78.5% say "not at all" and "rather unsatisfied".
For the Ministry of Immigration and Foreign Policy
As for the Ministry of Migration, 79.3% believe that its removal was wrong, while 64.9% believe that the re-establishment of the ministry will be more effective. On the contrary, on foreign policy issues, which are considered the second most important problem (with the third being economy), the government has garnered positive opinions.
59.6% say they are satisfied with the government's attitude towards Turkey, which has been steadily escalating its provocations lately. For the Libya conference in Berlin, where Greece was absent, only 22.9% said the government was to blame, while 63.2% criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
On the government's policy towards Turkey
When asked about the possibility of a hot incident with Ankara, 54.5% consider it possible, compared to 41.5% who believe that the situation will not reach its extremes.
In general, according to the poll, the government had positive attitudes from 55% on the way it handles the country's problems and affairs, slightly down from the previous measurement.
As for the opposition that SYRIZA is making after its July 7, 2019 election defeat, only 24.3% believe it is moving in the right direction. The cabinet has positive opinions on tackling squatters (74.6%) and its economic policy (60.5%).
Opinion Poll: No to early elections
At the same time, in the case of early election scenarios, following the passage of the new electoral law by Parliament, 83% of public opinion is negative, demanding that the four-year term be exhausted.
