According to media reports from Thrace, tensions prevailed throughout the Evros border region overnight. The police, reinforced by new forces, responded by throwing tear gas to try to intercept them.
Athens was particularly concerned about reports that shots were being fired from the Turkish border almost throughout the night. According to ANT-1, there was a similar scene on Saturday morning.
In a Twitter post, Der Spiegel magazine journalist George Christidis said refugees and immigrants had been in Evros for many hours in a desperate attempt to cross into Greece.

The Greek government has said it will not tolerate any illegal entry into the country, resulting in constant tensions between immigrants and the police, with the authorities using tear gas to halt transit efforts.
Local media report that some - about 30 in number - irregular migrants - have managed to cross Orestiada through passes through the Evros River.
Reportedly, the Turkish government not only does not hinder immigrants but also transports them to the border with Greece by bus, even with escorts! Bus transit is free according to reports, while the bus companies belong to persons related to Turkey's president.
