Greece spending 3.5 pct of GDP on coronavirus response, well above EU average, Petsas says

The fiscal cost of Greece's measures against the spread of coronavirus comes to 3.5 pct of the country's GDP, which is well above the European average, government spokesperson Stelios Petsas said on Tuesday in parliament.
The total cost, amounting to 6.8 billion euros, also includes the necessary 11-million-euro communication and information campaign on measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, which corresponds to 0.16 pct of total measures, Petsas said in reply to a written question by 65 main opposition SYRIZA deputies.
Commenting on Petsas' response, SYRIZA said that, despite the government's statements, it unfortunately "does not respect the taxpayers' money nor the need for transparency amid a pandemic".
