Stournaras deadlocked with farmers
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras met earlier on Thursday with a delegation of farmers but the two parties did not come to an agreement. The meeting ended in a deadlock.
Farmers said that they asked the minister to withdraw taxation measures and discuss from scratch the model of primary production, in order to ensure sustainability and growth.
Stournaras ruled out the withdrawal of measures, farmers claimed, but was willing to discuss issues related to the agricultural sector and consider tax models of other EU member states.
Unionists Theodoros Papaconstantinou and Giorgos Tzortzakis said that the finance minister rejected their proposal. According to the AMNA, however, Stournaras said that he was open to a discussion on issues pertaining to the agricultural sector on the condition that it was held within the framework of the new law.
After the unsuccessful meeting, farmers representatives said that they will be increasing their nationwide action.
