The first Romeo MH-60R Seahawk helicopters arrived in Greece. These are the 3 -out of a total of 7- new helicopters that our country will acquire from the USA, which will staff and upgrade the operational readiness of the Navy.
Designed and built to US Navy specifications, the 'Romeo' helicopter is characterized by experts as a robust, powerful and reliable helicopter. It has seats for a crew of up to five people.
The acceptance ceremony will take place in the presence of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Kotroni Air Base.
The characteristics of the Romeo MH-60R helicopters
Experts characterize them as multi-mission helicopters. It is the newest and most capable version of the Seahawk naval helicopters. These types of helicopters are among the most modern and powerful anti-submarine warfare that NATO has and Turkey does not have, which changes the balance in the air. They are equipped with new generation electronic systems, such as a digital cockpit with color screens, while at the same time they can use active and passive sound buoys of the latest technology and active submersible low-frequency sonar.
The navair.navy.mil website states: "The MH-60R has demonstrated unmatched multi-mission capabilities since becoming fully operational in 2010 and has achieved the highest mission capability rates of any naval helicopter."
In addition to the MK-46 and MK-50 anti-submarine warfare torpedoes, they can also engage surface targets with the AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, and are capable of conducting search-and-rescue and cargo transport missions under difficult conditions.
