Two Turks suspect in Greek spy attack arrested in Bulgaria

The arrests occurred at dawn Tuesday in the city of Svilengrad, near the Turkish border, following a tip from Greek police.

The first of the three alleged attackers, who was driving the jeep and opened fire on the Greek agents, was arrested Saturday in a mountain village in the Rhodope Mountains.

He was reportedly planning an escape through Bulgaria.

The 49-year-old, who is expected to appear in court Wednesday, faces charges of attempted murder, complicity, and illegal possession and use of a firearm.

Investigators have linked the suspects to the notorious Turkish gang known as the "Daltons." Greek intelligence and police services had been pursuing leads pointing to the Thrace region, where efforts to track the trio intensified in recent days.

The Greek intelligence service (EYP) has been conducting a months-long operation to map the presence and activities of Turkish organized crime networks in Greece.
