Heroic waiter rescues swimmer on Crete
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A quick-thinking waiter rescued a swimmer who was struggling in a dangerous rip current at Karteros Beach, an act captured on video that has drawn widespread praise.
The waiter from a local beach bar reportedly grabbed a life ring and swam out to the person after they were seen being pulled away from the shore by the current.
He managed to bring the swimmer safely back to land.
The rescue has also sparked a debate about safety, as there was no professional lifeguard on duty at the time of the incident.
The northern beaches of Crete are known for their powerful and potentially deadly currents.
