Dendias: The agreement for the two Bergamini-class frigates to be finalized on Monday
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Italian side regarding the two Bergamini-class frigates, as he announced today while speaking before the relevant Parliamentary Committee.
Mr. Dendias clarified that this is not a purchase memorandum, explaining, however, that: “The Navy has completed the inspection of the two ships, and I will sign a memorandum to begin negotiations,” he added.
“Since there is a defined framework, I hope this will be successful — 2+2 Italian vessels, the first two now, and when the Italians release the other two,” stated the Minister of National Defense. “If we achieve this, it will be a huge success for us. We will acquire, in very little time, the most modern Navy,” Mr. Dendias concluded.
