Arson attacks against New Democracy politicians' homes in Thessaloniki - 5 hospitalized

Arsonists targeted the homes of New Democracy politicians in Thessaloniki in the early hours of Wednesday, July 1. More specifically, the homes of the president of the ND Thessaloniki Steering Committee, Zisi Ioakimovits, former member of parliament for the 2nd Thessaloniki district, Savvas Anastasiadis, and member of parliament for the 1st Thessaloniki district, Afroditis Nestora, were targeted with arson attacks.
One arson attack occurred at the home of ND politician and lawyer Afroditi Nestora, at around 4:00 a.m. The explosion caused extensive damage to two cars and the apartment building, with flames reaching the first floor.
Five people were taken to hospital with respiratory problems.

Ms. Nestora was also taken to the hospital, who allegedly tried to put out the fire in her car herself, resulting in burns to her hands. She then tried to get her mother out of the apartment building, who is also being treated at Hippocrates Hospital. Information indicates that Ms. Nestora's mother is being treated intubated in the ICU. Her father developed respiratory problems.
The second arson occurred at the same time in an outdoor area on Perraivou Street, with initial information indicating that it targeted the house of former New Democracy MP Savvas Anastasiadis.
Another incident was recorded at 04:18 in Pylaia, where unknown persons placed and ignited a gas canister, without causing any material damage. A couple of police officers live on the first floor of the apartment building, while the apartment owner is the president of the Managing Committee of New Democracy Thessaloniki, Zisi Ioakimovic, who had lived in the property in the past.
