A Greek contingent paraded today at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, like in 1919 - The painting and the photo from the same spot
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
With a military parade in Paris different from the usual and with the presence of European leaders, wanting to send clear messages, France honored Bastille Day.
Greece was not only represented by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who attended the parade on the Champs-Elysees together with other European leaders, nor only by the two Greek Rafales that flew in the sky of Paris, but also by a Greek contingent that participated and represented the country with pride.
Wearing their uniforms, they paraded in Paris and were applauded, in a gesture that captures the historical ties between the two countries that extend to this day.
Greeks in the parade in Paris in 1919 and today
Indeed, today's image with the Greek contingent acquires an even more intense emotional charge when compared to the image with a painting depicting representatives of the Greek army parading at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, during the victory parade after the end of World War I, on July 14, 1919.
