Tempi tunnels: in the pipeline

The tunnels will facilitate drivers at this rather dangerous passage at the level of Tempi, northern Greece. Many deadly accidents have made this part of the route one of the most challenging ones for drivers.

When the project is completed there will be a slight rise in the price of tolls paid -only 50 cents – but the route from Athens to Thessaloniki will be by half an hour shorter.

Infrastructure Minister, Michalis Chrisochoidis and the head of Greece's Task Force, Horst Reichenbach visited the tunnel that is under construction in the area of Platamonas.

Reichenbach said that the progress of this project is symbolic, since it illustrates that “the person that insists, reaches his goal at the end”. Moreover, he added that “Greeks often refer to the light at the end of the tunnel” as their goal.

The two tunnels at Tempi and the one at Platamonas will be given to circulation in August of 2015.
