The United Arab Emirates national air carrier, Etihad Airways, will increase the number of the Abu Dhabi-Athens flights from seven to ten a week as of July 2.
Based on the codeshare agreement reached by the two airlines, Aegean Airlines will commence a four-times-a-week service between Athens and Abu Dhabi on May 28 and Etihad Airways will place its EY flight code on the new flight.
Beyond Athens, Etihad Airways will also place its flight code on Aegean Airlines-operated flights to 16 Greek destinations, including the islands of Crete, Rhodes and Santorini and to 10 cities across Europe, among them, Larnaca, Madrid and Sofia.
In return, Aegean Airlines will offer new codeshare routes (A3) between Athens and seven destinations across the Gulf region, Australia and South Africa, including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Bahrain, Kuwait and Johannesburg.
Following regulatory approvals, Etihad Airways will place its flight code on the new Aegean Airlines flights to Barcelona.
Between June 1 and September 30, two of the Etihad Airways daily flights will be upgraded and will be carried out by 254-seat Airbus A330-200 passenger planes.
