Doctors Prescribed for the Dead
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Health insurance fund EOPYY has been burdened by 53 million euros worth of prescribed drugs and examinations by just 87 doctors.
This resulted from a relevant inquiry by the health ministry into prescriptions, as was announced by minister Adonis Georgiadis, who stressed that observed excesses were beyond conceivable limits.
According to the data presented, doctors in certain specialties that also conduct examinations at their private offices are alleged to bill examination packages that are unnecessarily repeated at regular intervals.
It was also found that a significant percentage of prescriptions for diagnostic examinations were written out by doctors that were not of relevant specialties.
Larisa prefecture holds the record for prescriptions, as some doctors there prescribed medicines and examinations even for deceased persons.
