Greek Inmates & Guards Strike Over Prison Issues
Greece's correctional institutions are severely understaffed and currently hold a general ratio of one prison guard for every 500 criminals, as reported by union figures.
Hellenic guards are organizing a protest to call attention to the issue. Additionally, over 3,000 prisoners across the nation are currently on a hunger strike, due to the government's creation of maximum-security cells in central Greece's Domokos prison. According to Justice Ministry General Secretary for Crime-Fighting Policies Marinos Skandamis, plans are to remain in full force.
