PPC Union Workers Continue Strike
The Greek legal system has called for Public Power Corporation staff to return to work, as they continue to strike over the company's partial privatization plans.
Former GENOP union leader Nikos Fotopoulos stated today, "Without us, the cogs will not turn. Without us, there is no electrical power", as reported by Kathimerini. He asked that PPC employees continue to strike and defy the government's instructions to return to work.
Government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi commented today, "Since day one, the government's intention was and remains to protect the public interest...In a democracy, the law and court rulings must be respected by everyone".
SYRIZA, who supports the incensed power workers, also released a statement concerning the rolling blackouts, "The government has once again chosen the path of authoritarianism". The political party is calling for a popular vote over the privatization of PPC.
