Canada's "Greek Community and the Greek school preserve and pass on this enormous proud tradition to the younger generations," noted Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias in tweets following his visit to the Hellenic Community Centre of Greater Montreal on Wednesday.
Dendias visited the school together with his counterpart of Canada Mélanie Joly.
"I am among my compatriots who have crossed the Atlantic and succeeded in a young and dynamic country. And they did so by bringing the spirit of our country to this new and vibrant country," Dendias noted, addressing students and staff.
The Greek minister expressed his appreciation for the Greek community's efforts to preserve the Greek language, and to Joly for representing "the principles that Greece expresses in today’s world" that are "the same values and principles Canada stands for."
Earlier on Wednesday, Dendias said in a tweet, the two ministers also visited the 'Socrates-Demosthenes' Greek School, where students recited the song 'Tsamiko' composed by Manos Chatzidakis and written by Nikos Gatsos, and where he also talked with students and teaching staff.
