Fredi Beleri, a New Democracy MEP, was released from prison yesterday after serving 16 months. Following his release, Mr. Beleri expressed a sense of relief but made it clear that his legal battle is far from over.
Speaking to the Skai local broadcaster, he extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his supporters.
"The people of Himara are deeply moved; for one of the rare times in their history, they don’t feel alone—they have the government and the Prime Minister standing with them," he said.
Mr. Beleri also revealed his plans to continue his legal fight, despite his skepticism about the Albanian judiciary.
"I will exhaust all legal avenues within the Albanian justice system, even though I lack trust in it, and if necessary, I will take my case to the International Court of Human Rights," he affirmed.
