Diplomatic sources: Greeks in Aleppo safe – Greece supporting Christians in the Middle East
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Diplomatic sources on developments in Syria say that the historic Greek community in Aleppo numbers about 50 families and point out that all Greeks are safe.
According to the same sources, the Greek embassy in Damascus and the Greek unpaid consul in Aleppo are in constant contact with the Greeks in Aleppo, who have been advised not to move.
"The Greek embassy has received 40 requests from Greeks and their associated members to be included in a displacement operation, which will be undertaken by the United Nations. The UN convoy will have a final destination of Damascus," the same sources noted.
It is stressed that the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains on standby for any assistance needed.
"Greece, as it did during the civil war in Syria, has always stood by Christians in the Middle East," the same diplomatic sources said.
