Distinguished Cypriot chef Andreas Mavrommatis dies at age 69

According to information from alphanews.live, the distinguished chef suffered a heart attack, leaving behind a significant legacy in international gastronomy, always putting Cyprus in the spotlight.

Andreas Mavrommatis was one of the most important ambassadors of Cypriot and Greek cuisine abroad, as he managed to highlight it in the demanding gastronomic environment of France and establish it at a high level. He himself has cooked for important personalities, such as Emmanuel Macron.

Andreas Mavrommatis was originally from Agios Ioannis Pitsilias. In the late 1970s, he went to Paris to study psychology and sociology. However, his work in a restaurant to cover his expenses eventually led him to the world of cooking, to which he dedicated himself for the rest of his life.

In 1981, together with his brothers Evagoras and Dionysios, he opened a small grocery store in Paris, which gradually evolved into an entire gastronomic empire.

In 2018, his restaurant in Paris was awarded a star by the Michelin Guide, marking the first time a Cypriot chef had won this important distinction.

This star was maintained in the following years, confirming Mavrommatis' position among the leading representatives of Mediterranean cuisine internationally.
