Scenes of chaos unfolded at a kickboxing match in Serbia, when after the end of the match between Greek athlete Giannis Tsoukalas and Serbian Vahid Kitsara for the WKU professional world title at -67 kg., people invaded the ring and attacked Tsoukalas, in the city of Novi Pazar.
According to media reports in Serbia, members of Kitsaras’ team entered the ring and attacked the Greek athlete. In fact, the Serbian fighter’s brother reportedly punched Tsoukalas in the face as he knelt down to pray.
Tensions escalated rapidly, with around 50 people entering the arena and a general brawl ensued. The event’s organizers were unable to restore order, claiming that there were not enough security personnel to deal with such an incident.
According to Serbian media reports, Giannis Tsoukalas was immediately transferred from Novi Pazar to a hospital in Belgrade for preventive tests. After undergoing the necessary tests and being discharged, he returned to Greece.
