Koufos not playing with National team in world cup

He was to be the startup center of the Greek national basketball team in this autumn World Cup tournament in Spain, but NBAer Kostas Koufos changed his mind.
Just two days prior his arrival in Greece for the training camp of the national team, Kostas Koufos informed via his agent Andy Bountogianis that he will not compete in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. According to the press release of the Greek federation, Koufos prefers to work on his game in the States for the upcoming season.
That put an end to the possible presence of Koufos in Spain, however the Greek federation is not expected to take any further action against the player.
Koufos' decision to stay away from the World Cup tournament announced by his manager, was sudden, unexpected and infuriated Greece's new coach. Fotis Katsikaris revealed that it was the player's manager who, just a few weeks ago, took credit for allegedly persuading Koufos to play with Greece in September and it was the same manager who announced the player decided to abstain.
He said that this development is indicative of both men's character, adding that players like Koufos do not deserve to be in -and have no place with- the Greek national team.
