Guilfoyle: Senate resolution on her appointment to US embassy in Athens next week

Thune introduced a resolution that includes 48 nominees - including Guilfoyle, paving the way for her approval (it has been blocked along with others by the Democrats), which they do not rule out happening next week.

Republicans are taking advantage of a Senate rule, the "nuclear option", to make a group confirmation of appointments to non-ministerial positions of officials.

A vote will be held on Thursday, where 60 votes are needed for approval, a goal that is not expected to be met, and Republicans will raise an objection to override the decision and change the rules by a simple majority.

The final vote will be held early next week, according to the Associated Press.

The “nuclear option” allows the majority with this objection to bypass the two-thirds vote requirement. The second vote, on the objection, requires 51 votes, which Republicans have in the Senate.
