NYC Smoking Advocacy Group Files Lawsuit Against E-Cigarette Ban

The NYC Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment stated today, that it filed a lawsuit against New York City in its decision to ban e-cigarettes.

The advocacy group filed in the state Supreme Court. Former Mayor Bloomberg signed the Smoke-Free Air Act during his last working month. The Act restricts e-cigarettes in the same areas where normal cigarettes are not allowed.

The smoker's advocacy group claims the law regulates both e-cigarettes and tobacco and is a violation of the "One Subject Rule" of New York's Charter. The World Health Organization has not determined the dangers of the e-cigarette, while the FDA has yet to regulate the usage of e-cigarettes. The City Council voted to increase the cigarette purchasing age to 21 in October 2013, regarding cigars, cigarillos and cigarettes.
