Thirty-year-old Princess Mahra of Dubai ended her marriage In an unusual way.
The daughter of the 75-year-old Sheikh of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and Greek Zoi Grigorakou, with a post on Instagram divorced her businessman husband, Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana al Maktoum.
With her post on Tuesday, July 16, the princess shocked the Arab Emirates when she announced that she decided to divorce her husband due to infidelity. “Dear husband, since you are busy with other partners, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, divorce you, and divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife."
The princess, who is one of the Sheikh of Dubai's 23 children, married the wealthy businessman in May 2023 and gave birth to a baby girl just two months ago. The post, which is rare for a woman in an Islamic country, even if it is a princess, sparked a lot of comments with several users congratulating the 30-year-old for her boldness.
"Stay strong", "You are a strong woman, you are your father's daughter", "Love and respect, stay strong", "Queen of Dubai", "I am proud of your decision", users write below the princess's post, which currently has 69,000 likes and 11,000 comments. In June, the Dubai princess posted a photo of herself with her daughter in her arms and captioned it: "Just the two of us." The daughter of the Sheikh of Dubai has removed from her Instagram account all joint photos with her husband and they have unfollowed each other.
According to Islamic law the practice of "immediate" divorce, which is traditionally followed only by men, is called "talaq-e-biddat". When a husband tells his wife three times "talaq" (renunciation of marriage) the couple's marriage is immediately dissolved. Women have the right to seek a divorce from their husband ("khul"), i.e. divorce by consent or from the court and in some cases the couple signs a prenuptial agreement, which also gives the wife the right to divorce her husband saying "talaq" three times.
