Women to join Cyprus National Guard
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Cyprus Parliament voted in favor of regulating the procedure, while the first women are expected to be enlisted in the National Guard of the island in October.
In the presence of the Minister of Defense, Vasilis Palmas, the relevant bill was voted in favor of allowing women to contribute to the armed forces on a voluntary basis.
The invitation of women to the army will be carried out by decree of the Council of Ministers, as is the case with the compulsory conscription of men.
"We express our warm thanks to the members of the Parliament's Defense Committee for the good cooperation and constructive dialogue we have had throughout the previous period, as well as to the parliamentary parties that participated in the vote," the Ministry of Defense said in a post on X.
