The supply of American LNG to Ukraine through Greece begins in March

ATLANTIC SEE LNG TRADE A.E., which includes AKTOR Group, will start supplying U.S. LNG to Ukraine in March, Reuters reported.

The Greek consortium signed its first deal to supply U.S. liquefied natural gas to Ukraine in March, it said on Monday, as Greece seeks to strengthen its role as a transit route for natural gas to Europe, which plans to ban Russian gas imports by the end of 2027.

Ukraine is facing its worst energy crisis since wartime as its energy sector collapses under the weight of Russian attacks, cold weather and accumulated losses. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week that the country had “significantly diversified” its gas supplies.

The cargo of American liquefied natural gas will arrive at the Revithoussa LNG terminal in Greece and its delivery to the Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz is scheduled for March via a pipeline connecting Greece with Ukraine via Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova, according to a statement by Atlantic See LNG Trade, in which the AKTOR group participates with 60% and DEPA Emporias with 40%.

The maximum quantity can reach up to 1 terawatt hour, depending on the available capacity of the gas network operators involved, the consortium added in its statement.

Greece agreed last year to import 700 million cubic meters of US LNG annually from 2030, as part of its first long-term deal with Washington, which seeks to replace Russian supplies to Europe.
