- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate in the AI Impact Summit in India (18-19/2), where he will also meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, taking place in New Delhi on 18–19 February, constitutes a strategic choice of high political and geoeconomic importance.
International initiative in India on artificial intelligence
The Summit is a central international initiative for the formation of a global policy framework for Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on measurable social and developmental impact (People–Planet–Progress).
India seeks to shift the international debate from general declarations to specific results, tangible partnerships and scalable (flexible) applications. The Prime Minister’s presence at the Summit places Greece at the heart of this transition, while strengthening its role in the global dialogue on Artificial Intelligence as a bridge between Europe and the Global South.
The Summit brings together heads of state, international organizations and leading technology leaders. More than 20 heads of state and government and representatives from an additional 60 countries are expected to participate in the Summit.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the AI Impact Summit – accompanied by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou and the Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning at the Presidency of the Government Yiannis Mastrogeorgiou – enhances Greece’s international visibility in a sector that will determine the geo-economic power of the coming decades and establishes it as a country that combines innovation, regulatory framework and social benefit.
Greece is actively participating in shaping the framework of the next era, not as a spectator, but as a co-shaper, upgrading its role in issues of international technological governance.
The Prime Minister will make an intervention at the Summit, while he will have meetings with representatives of leading technology companies and officials. According to the current schedule, with:
-Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President of the United States and Head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
-Demis Hassabis, CEO, Google DeepMind
-Brad Smith, Vice President of Microsoft
-Mati Staniszewski, CEO, ElevenLabs
-Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI
-Arthur Mensch, CEO, Mistral A.I
Prime Minister's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi
On Thursday, on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, the Prime Minister will have a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Two and a half years after the joint statement of the two leaders during Mr. Modi’s official visit to Athens to upgrade the relationship to a strategic partnership (August 2023) and two years after Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ official visit to India (February 2024), bilateral relations have entered a trajectory of overall upgrading at all levels, while Greece is strengthening its presence in India with two new consulates in Mumbai and Bangalore.
Greece can be the strategic, geopolitical and commercial gateway of the Indo-Pacific to Europe, while it can be a vital point of the Middle East-India-Europe Corridor (IMEC). Greece’s location, at the crossroads of three continents, is an ideal bridge to Europe, but also to the Eastern Mediterranean, and Greece seeks to cooperate with the countries participating in this emblematic project.
At the same time, cooperation with India is expanding in a number of areas, in security and defense, investment and trade, science and technology, education, culture, tourism and agriculture, while the EU-India trade agreement redefines and strengthens the bilateral trade and investment framework, as it creates new opportunities and conditions of access for European products and businesses to a huge market.
