An attack on a ship of Greek interests was carried out by the Revolutionary Guards off the coast of Oman. The attack caused damage but no injuries.

Specifically, amid escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf, a new security incident has come to highlight the increased risks for international shipping, this time focusing on a container ship of Greek interests.

According to the maritime security company Diaplous, the captain of the containership "EPAMINONDAS" (IMO 9153862), flagged by Liberia and managed by Maersk, reported that an IRGC gunboat approached the ship without prior communication via VHF and then opened fire.

The attack caused serious damage to the ship's bridge, while according to the same report, all crew members are safe.

The ship had set sail from the port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, bound for Mudra, India, at a time when maritime security in the wider region remains extremely fragile, amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

The Iranian Tasnim news agency also reported the news, reporting that "Iranian armed forces opened fire on a container ship that ignored repeated warnings."
