Greek Oil Tanker Highjacked
Yesterday, Ghanaian military spokesman Eric Aggrey-Quashie stated that the Greek oil tanker MT Fair Artemis that disappeared in the Gulf of Guinea last week, is probably located in the Togolese waters now.
The spokesman reported to Agence France Presse, "The vessel is not in our waters...It's gone off and they suspect it's moving towards Togo. (The navy) is trying to get confirmation from the Togolese if they have identified any vessel in the waters".
Hellenic shipping corporation Fairdeal S.A. lost communication with the Liberian-flagged MT Fair Artemis last Thursday, as it made its way through the Ghana coast.
The vessel contained 24 crew members and was exporting fuel oil. The water region is plagued by constant piracy, containing 19% of all highjacking crimes worldwide in 2013, as confirmed by the International Maritime Bureau.
