Cypriot Minister of Health Comments on National Interests
Cypriot Minister of Health Phillip Patsalis declared that citizens have a responsibility to protect their nation.
The Minister stated that next month is a very crucial one, regarding the current UN approved peace talks between both territories regarding a Cyprus solution. He spoke at Tasos Isaac's and Solomos Solomou's memorial, who died during an anti-occupation rally by motorcyclists back in 1996, as reported by Parikiaki. In his address, Patsalis commented:
"Our commitment is to exhaust all available options within the process of negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem," he said, pointing out that "our own positions and proposals are entirely within the scope of the agreed basis and solution proposals are based on the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979, the UN resolutions, but also on international and European law," which provide for a bicommunal bizonal federation".
The Minister of Health added, "September will be very important for the way things develop and all options must be addressed with due seriousness in order to avoid traps aimed at meeting the Turkish positions. This is our duty and we owe it to our dead and to future generations".
