Getty Museum Offers Mycenaean Artifacts Lecture
The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles is set to showcase recent archaeological findings from Greece, with a lecture titled "Excavating a Mycenaean Palace near Sparta".
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., at the Getty Villa. The Museum describes the event as, "Hear about exciting new finds from the early 14th century B.C. at a likely Bronze Age palace just south of Sparta, in the region of the Homeric kingdom of Menelaus and Helen of Troy."
Adamantia Vasilogamvrou served as the excavation director at Ayious Vasileios; the archeological site is located in Laconia, Greece. Vasilogamvrou's discoveries contain Linear B tablets that hold the Mycenaean Greek language, along with numerous impressive Mycenaean heirlooms, among others.
Vasilogamvrou is the Greek Ministry of Culture's Director Emerita of Antiquities and the Ayios Vasileios Archaeological Project Director . The International Shanghai Archaeology Forum awarded the excavation last year with an honorable distinction. The event is free, however a ticket is needed.
