Sci-Fi themed dance show in a truck tours Greek Islands
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Greek National Opera Ballet is launching an unconventional summer tour on Friday, taking a futuristic dance performance staged entirely inside a 15-meter truck to islands and towns across the country.
The show, titled “Future Cargo,” will travel from July 4 to 27 to the Cycladic islands of Paros, Naxos, and Syros, as well as to several cities in the Peloponnese, including Kalamata and Ancient Olympia.
Created by choreographers Frauke Requardt and David Rosenberg, the 50-minute performance offers a unique spectacle designed for public squares and parks.
Dancers perform on a moving conveyor belt inside the truck’s transparent container, while the audience, wearing headphones, is immersed in a surreal, sci-fi narrative through a rich soundscape.
The production is a collaboration between the Greek National Opera and The Place, a renowned London-based dance institution, with the tour made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
The initiative is part of a broader effort to extend the National Opera’s artistic reach beyond its Athens base.
The show’s creators describe the experience as an invitation into “an impossible internal space that defies preconceptions,” captivating audiences of all ages with its blend of striking visuals, sound, and humor.
