HAF A-7 Corsair crashes in Komotini

A Hellenic Air Force jet crashed near the area of Ambelones in Komotini, Northern Greece a little before 10 a.m., during routine training exercises.
Fortunately the pilot of the aircraft was able to abandon the jet, by using the ejection seat.
The A-7 Corsair ground attack aircraft was participating in a training exercise in the Evros region and had taken off with another A7 jet from 116 Combat Wing, in Araxos.
An expert committee has been called to look into the reasons for this accident, which according to initial estimates, was due to a mechanical problem. Minister of National Defense, Dimitris Avramopoulos contacted the pilot in order to congratulate him for his prompt reaction and wished him a fast recovery.
