Greek Parliament Passes Hate-Crime Bill
Hellenic lawmakers passed a hate-crime bill, that prohibits the denial of the Holocaust and establishes harsher consequences for hate acts.
The Greek government has been trying to enact the bill for over a year, during the nation's rise in racist violence and Golden Dawn's popularity. The bill was passed with 55 in favor, out of the 99 participating delegates.
Additionally, it enlarges jail sentences for prejudiced crimes from two years to three, and penalizes guilty parties with fines. It also has the authority to ban state funds from bodies that are racist.
